Three brewing companies cooking up specialty beer and vodka. And another three places you might find intriguing where it all started Charles Towne Landing, Irvin-House Vineyards, and the Mepkin Abbey and Gardens are also located in our area. Boone Hall Plantation 1235 Long Point Rd. Mt. Pleasant (843) 884-4371 Unlike Any Other! Boone Hall Plantation is touted as “America’s Most Photographed Plantation” and "a must see stop on any trip to Charleston" by NBC Daytime television. Start by walking down the world famous Avenue of Oaks, one of the most spectacular entrances anywhere in the world. Explore the Gullah Culture through the only live theatrical presentation on any plantation in the Lowcountry. Visit one of the only still existing Slave Streets in America. Charleston Tea Plantation Take Ashley River Bridge (US17), stay left to Folly Rd. (SC171), turn right onto Maybank Hwy. (SC700) for 18 miles, look for entrance sign on the left. A drive from historic downtown Charleston down Maybank Highway onto Wadmalaw Island is like a trip back in time. As you wind along the road look for our sign on the left hand side of Maybank Highway. Once you turn into Charleston Tea Plantation the first impression will be the sight of hundreds of thousands of tea plants (camellia sinensis) over acres and acres of rich and fertile Lowcountry land. Take a stroll under the grand oaks that lead you up to our brand new factory and enjoy the remarkable views from the porch (rocking chairs included!) then step inside for a one of a kind experience. Wednesday through Saturday: 10 am to 4 pm Sunday: noon to 4 pm. |

Located across from Noisette Creek on the Old Navy Base, they believe in utilizing alternative means to brew unique beer. We also believe in choice organic and local ingredients. |
Cypress Gardens Cypress Gardens Rd. Moncks Corner (843) 553-0515 Cypress Gardens is located approximately 24 miles north of Charleston, SC, USA. The Gardens, known as the Gem of Berkeley County, offers visitors the rare experience of being one with nature as they explore the swamp on flat bottom boats, or by walking on a variety of nature trails. Visitors are surprised and amazed at the beauty and serenity of the cypress swamp. |
Drayton Hall 3030 Hwy 6l Charleston (843) 766-0188 Drayton Hall is the only plantation house on the Ashley River to survive the Revolutionary and Civil Wars intact. After seven generations, two great wars, and numerous hurricanes and earthquakes, the main house of this National Historic Landmark remains in nearly original condition. The entire site serves as an eloquent testimony to America's heritage. |

Magnolia Plantation and Gardens 3550 Ashley River Road, Highway 61 Charleston (843) 571-1266 Listed in the National Register of Historic Places by the U. S. Department of the Interior, stately Magnolia Plantation has, for over three centuries, been the original ancestral home of the Drayton family, whose many sons have played important roles throughout American history. It is believed that no other plantation in South Carolina is still under original family ownership from that early date, thirteen generations of the present-owning family having enjoyed it. It is the centerpiece of Ashley River history, and played important roles in the early days of settlement, the Revolutionary War, and the Civil War. |
Middleton Place Ashley River Road Charleston (843) 556-6020 Middleton Place was established early in the life of the Carolina colony and served as a base of operations for a great Low Country planter family and was home to a dynamic African-American slave community. Begun in 1741 by Henry Middleton, President of the First Continental Congress, the 60-acre landscaped garden was both an intellectual and emotional focus for successive generations of Middletons. Until 1865, the garden was nurtured and embellished by Henry's son, Arthur Middleton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence; Arthur Middleton's son, Henry Middleton, who was Governor of South Carolina and U.S. Minister to Russia; and Governor Henry Middleton's son, Williams Middleton, who signed the Ordinance of Secession. |
Mepkin Abbey and Gardens (843) 761-8509 Guided tours 11:30am and 3pm Tues-Sat & 3 pm on Sunday. Since 1949 Catholic Trappist monks have lived and worked on this 3,000 acre 18th century Cooper River rice plantation. Visitors tour a working monastery and adjacent gardens and shop in Mepkin Abbey Store featuring monastic products and unique handcrafted items. |
Palmetto Brewing Company 289 Huger Street, Charleston, SC (843) 937.0903 The original Palmetto operated in Charleston from before the Civil War until sometime after the turn of the 20th century.
